What is OLED display?

OLED is an organic light-emitting diode, also known as Organic Electroluminescence Display (OLED). Due to its unique features such as self-illumination, no need for a backlight, high contrast ratio, thin thickness, wide viewing angle, fast response speed, suitability for flexible panels, wide operating temperature range, and simpler structure and manufacturing process, OLED offers much better image quality. It has higher contrast (also known as HDR high dynamic range) and a wider viewing angle, making it an ideal choice for high-end electronic products.

The Classification of OLED Display

1. Classified by Driving Method

Passive OLED (PM-OLED): Simple structure, suitable for small size and low information density display scenarios;

Active OLED (AM-OLED): Each pixel is equipped with an independent thin film transistor (TFT) for control, with faster response, lower power consumption, and the ability to achieve higher resolution. It is the technical choice for mainstream products such as smartphones and televisions.

2. Classified by Colorization Technology

RGB OLED: Red, green, and blue primary color pixels emit light independently, offering the best color expression and contrast. However, it has high manufacturing difficulty and cost, and is mainly used in small-sized displays;

WOLED: Uses a white light-emitting layer combined with color filters to achieve full-color display. The process is relatively simple and the yield rate is high, and is mainly used in large-sized televisions.

Product Features of OLED Display Module

1. Outstanding Visual Performance

With a contrast ratio of over 10,000:1, high color saturation, and clear edges without ghosting for text and icons. The self-luminous technology ensures excellent readability even in strong light or complete darkness.

2. Ultra-low Power Consumption Architecture

The working voltage is only 3.3V or 5V. The power consumption for full screen illumination is approximately 25mA (depending on the number of illuminated pixels), and the power consumption in standby mode can be as low as the micro-ampere level. Compared to TFT or LCD screens of the same size, the power consumption is reduced by approximately 50%-70%, making it extremely suitable for battery-powered portable devices.

3. Wide Temperature Range and Reliability

The working temperature range covers -40℃ to +85℃, and the storage temperature can reach -40℃ to +85℃. It has excellent weather resistance. The module integrates a boost circuit internally, and only a small amount of peripheral capacitors are required for stable operation, with anti-static capability meeting industrial standards.

4. Flexible Interface Configuration

It provides pad designs compatible with I2C interface and SPI interface, allowing users to choose flexibly based on the main control resources. This module supports mainstream platforms such as Arduino, STM32 and ESP32, and can be directly connected to the existing open-source ecosystem, significantly shortening the development cycle.

Applications of OLED Display Module

1. Consumer Electronics

OLED display is the mainstream display solution for high-end smartphones, tablets, laptops and televisions, offering high picture quality, wide viewing angles and energy-saving display effects.

2. Wearable Devices

Smartwatches, health monitors and other devices fully utilize the advantages of OLED's thinness, low power consumption and flexible adaptability.

3. Vehicle Display

OLED is widely used in dashboards, center consoles, and entertainment systems, adapting to the complex interior environment and providing clear visual information.

4. Near-eye Display for VR/AR

Silicon-based OLED (Micro OLED) has become the preferred screen technology for augmented reality and virtual reality devices due to its high resolution, fast response, and low latency.

5. OLED Lighting

OLED lighting panels are thin and flexible, capable of emitting uniform and soft light. They are regarded as a strong contender for the next generation of lighting technology.
