Which Type of Segment LCD Display is Best?

VA (Vertically Aligned) Type

Features: Ultra high contrast, very black pen segments and very white background, close to the visual effect of printed materials. The perspective is extremely wide, and it is very clear from almost any angle.

Advantages: top-notch display effect and high-end appearance.

Disadvantage: The most expensive price.

Application: high-end instruments, medical equipment, automotive dashboards, and other occasions that require extremely high display performance.

FSTN (Film Compensated STN) Type

Features: A compensation film is added on top of STN to solve the issues of background color and contrast in STN.

Advantages: Excellent display effect, preferred by many mid to high end devices, high cost-effectiveness.

Disadvantage: Slightly inferior viewing angle compared to VA screen

Application: General industrial equipment, smart home panels, consumer electronics products, etc.

STN (Super Twisted Nematic) Type

Features: It has a higher contrast and a wider viewing Angle than the TN type. It is usually displayed as gray text on a blue background

Advantage: Superior performance to TN, and lower cost than FSTN and VA

Disadvantage: It has a background color (usually blue or yellow) by itself and requires back-lighting to achieve a good effect.

Application: Electronic scale, instruments and meters, etc.

TN (Twisted Nematic) Type

Features: The most common type, with a relatively narrow viewing Angle. It usually works best when viewed from the front. It is displayed as gray background with black characters or black background with white characters (depending on the installation direction of the polarizer)

Advantage: The cheapest price.

Disadvantage: Narrow viewing Angle and average contrast.

Application: Consumer products that are cost-sensitive and have low requirements for perspective, such as calculators, electronic clocks, low-end toys, etc.
