According to different data transmission methods, common interface types for TFT LCD display screens mainly include the following:
1. RGB Parallel Interface
Parallel transmission of pixel data through multiple data lines (usually 16, 18, or 24 bits).
Application: Small and medium-sized display screens, industrial control device, etc.
2. MCU interface (a type of parallel port, 8080/6800)
Data is transmitted in a time-sharing manner through control commands and data lines.
Application: Portable terminals, instruments and meters, etc.
3. SPI Serial Peripheral Interface
Pixel data is transmitted in series through clock and data lines.
Application: Smart wearable devices, small display screen(like 0.96 inch, 1.54 inch)
4. LVDS interface
Used for high-speed and large data transmission.
Application: Medical equipment, car central control screens, etc.
5. MIPI interface
Specially designed for high-resolution mobile display screens, using differential signal transmission.
Application: Embedded devices that require high-performance displays.
6. HDMI interface
Digital audio and video transmission interface, transmitting all signals in one line.
Application: Intelligent advertising machine, embedded industrial all in one PC, etc.
7. EDP interface
The embedded version of DisplayPort is commonly found in laptops.
Application: Integrated machines, high-end industrial displays, and some automotive displays, etc.
1. Ultra small screen/low requirements: SPI (lowest cost, minimum pins).
2. Small and medium-sized screens/micro-controllers: MCU or SPI interface
3. Medium screen/Embedded Linux/Requires good performance: RGB (good performance, relatively simple design) or MIPI DSI (few pins, high performance but complex design).
4. Mobile devices/high-performance embedded: MIPI DSI (absolute mainstream, high-performance and low-power).
5. Laptop/Industrial Large Screen/Automotive: LVDS (Traditional) or eDP (Mainstream Trend, Stronger Performance Features).
6. External monitor/TV: HDMI/DP (Consumer Electronics Standard).
